Six Local Women to be Honored at the Free 25th Anniversary Fannie Lou Hamer
​On-Line Awards Reception 
For Their Leadership in Civil and Human Rights - Oct. 6, 2020

Chosen from across Anne Arundel County, six trailblazing women and one man will be honored during the 25th annual Fannie Lou Hamer Awards Reception, held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, in a free on-line ceremony. Known for impacting their community—whether through the courts, medical initiatives or community activism, each of these citizens has made a lasting mark on the Annapolis area. All of this year’s honorees — Venus Bradford, Octavia Brown, Emma Buchman, C.J. Meushaw, Delegate Shaneka Henson, Toni Strong-Pratt and Joseph Donahue — ​FLH25

Ten Local Civil and Human Rights Activists to be Honored at the 31st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Awards Dinner

(Annapolis, Md., Dec. 26, 2018)—The  31st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Awards Reception and Dinner will be held Friday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. The largest celebration of Dr. King’s birthday in Anne Arundel County will be held at La Fountaine Bleue in Glen Burnie. A highlight of the program will be the world premiere of the Martin Luther King Jr. documentary film The Dream Revisited, Civil Rights in Perspective, directed by Charles and May Love. “I watched this beautiful film and was deeply moved by it,” said Dr. William Ferris, former chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities, Washington, D.C. “It is a powerful, timely reminder of how race continues to define our lives,” he said.....MLK Dinner 2019.

Six Local Women to be Honored at Fannie Lou Hamer Awards Reception
In Annapolis • Oct. 6
For Their Leadership in Civil and Human Rights On the 101st Anniversary of Hamer’s Birthday

Chosen from across Anne Arundel County, six trailblazing women will be honored during the 101st birthday celebration of the late civil rights heroine, Fannie Lou Hamer. This event will be held from 4pm to 6 pm  Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Frances Scott Key Auditorium at St. John’s College in Annapolis. Known for impacting their community — whether through social justice or historical outreach — each woman has made a lasting mark on Anne Arundel County. All of this year’s honorees — Vanessa Bright Brown, Dr. Pamela Brown, Michelle Coates, Rosalind Hill-Cane, Linda Mundy, and Barbara Palmer — join the ranks of more than 100 notable women who have won the award in the past.  A concluding dinner with wine will be served.

The event is sponsored by the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Anne Arundel County and cosponsored by St. Johns College.
